We plan to continue working with two ministries that we worked with last year: House to House (H2H) and Common Ground Montgomery (CGM). The former is a ministry that refurbishes homes in the Washington Park area of west Montgomery and makes those homes available for rent or purchase. The latter provides after-school and summer activities for kids in that same area of the city.
With House to House in the mornings and early afternoons, our involvement would be mostly for construction (and sometimes demolition) that can include interior and exterior work (e.g. digging trenches, sheetrock installation, mudding, sanding, painting, framing with wood, installing trim, installing siding, installing cabinets, etc). You do not have to be an expert – or even experienced – in these aspects of construction in order to actively participate. There will be experts and guides available to ensure that we are doing the right things in the right ways – and you might learn a new skill or two that you can bring back to Louisville.
With CGM in the afternoons, we would help run some of the activities which can include any number of games (e.g. basketball, dodge ball, snatch the bacon, shark, etc) as well as some craft activities and refreshments.
There will be other group activities that we will plan for the evenings to introduce us to the city, its culture, and its history.
If you have an interest in participating, please contact Arne Keister by June 23rd.
